Staff Accountant

The Archdiocese of Indianapolis is seeking a full-time staff accountant in downtown Indianapolis. This is an onsite role, Monday – Thursday (Fridays off).

The staff accountant is responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant of Catholic Charities and Agency Reporting in providing accounting services for several agencies of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare bi-weekly stipend payment request
  • Review deposits and oversee posting process to general ledger
  • Record electronic deposits including lockbox and credit card activity
  • Submit payment requests for auto-withdrawal payments
  • Record in-kind activity
  • Review expense reimbursement report
  • Prepare, review and record credit card expense and payment activity
  • Coordinate school social work billing and A/R collection
  • Prepare cash and other balance sheet reconciliations
  • Provide accounting support for Fatima Retreat House
  • Assist Senior Accountant of Catholic Charities and Agency Reporting in monitoring banking activities 
  • Maintain project grants for specific funding sources and provide project reporting as needed
  • Assist in maintaining grant reporting, including obtaining and reviewing grant agreements and contracts
  • Serve as backup for other OAS staff and perform other duties as required to contribute to the efficiency of the office

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting, particularly not-for-profit accounting.
  • Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills, completing work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Prior experience with Sage Intacct a plus, but not required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Works well with others in a variety of settings

Education, Training & Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in Accounting or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Accounting
